Planned Parenthood’s business is abortion, not women’s health
Tyler, Texas – On Tuesday, September 29, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee held a hearing on Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding, with Cecile Richards, the President of Planned Parenthood, as the lone witness. The Committee’s background reports states:
- PPFA supports 59 independent affiliates operating 667 health centers across the United States. For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2014, Planned Parenthood reported approximately $1.3 billion in total revenue, of which $528.4 million (41%) is attributed to “government health services grants and reimbursements.”
- CBO estimates that Planned Parenthood receives approximately $450 million annually in federal funds, nearly all of which is from programs administered by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Members of Congress questioned Ms. Richards on a host of issues regarding Planned Parenthood’s practices, including the allegations of illegal fetal body part trafficking. When questioned by Congresswoman Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) as to how many Planned Parenthood clinics have mammogram machines, Ms. Richards answered that “none of them do.” In a follow-up question from Congresswoman Mia Love (R-UT), Ms. Richards stated “We do not have mammogram machines at our health centers and we’ve never stated that we did.”
“I was pleased to hear Cecile Richards set the record straight today that Planned Parenthood does not provide mammograms for women, despite the fact that she has claimed this in years past,” responded Abby Johnson, President of And Then There Were None (ATTWN). “Now it is also time for Ms. Richards to own up to the fact that abortion is big business for the so-called women’s health organization. As a former Planned Parenthood director, I can tell you that it’s not ‘care, no matter what’ at Planned Parenthood, but rather, ‘abortion, no matter what.’”
Last week, ATTWN supporters made hundreds of calls to Planned Parenthood affiliates to attempt to schedule mammograms, and not a single one as able to do so. You can read a compilation of call reports on And Then There Were None’s website, AbortionWorker.com.
