Hundreds of women turned away from scheduling mammograms at Planned Parenthood
Austin, Texas – On Monday, September 21, hundreds of women called their local Planned Parenthood affiliate as part of a “Schedule Your Mammogram” Day. The effort was organized by And Then There Were None (ATTWN), the nonprofit ministry founded by Abby Johnson that exists to help abortion clinic workers leave the abortion industry.
Not a single woman was able to schedule a mammogram with Planned Parenthood. You can read a compilation of call reports on And Then There Were None’s website, AbortionWorker.com, in addition to reading the entirety of reports on ATTWN’s Facebook page.
As Congress considers stripping federal funds from Planned Parenthood when the budget expires on September 30th, the organizations’ leaders and supporters continue to claim falsely that the so-called women’s health organization performs mammograms. The President of Planned Parenthood, Cecile Richards at one time commented on the prospect of her organization losing federal funding that “If this bill would ever become law, millions of women in this country will lose their healthcare access, not to abortion services, to basic family planning, like mammograms.”
Furthermore, during the recent Miss America Pageant, Miss Tennessee Hannah Robison answered a question about the potential defunding of Planned Parenthood by repeating the mammogram lie — “I don’t think Planned Parenthood funding should be cut off. The $500 million that gets given to Planned Parenthood every single year goes to female … care. It goes for scanning for cancers, it goes for mammograms … and if we don’t give that funding to Planned Parenthood, those women will be out of healthcare for reproductive causes.”
Planned Parenthood does not perform mammograms, nor is it even legally able to do so. “It’s time for Cecile Richards to set the record straight about the true nature of Planned Parenthood. We call on Ms. Richards to make an official statement clarifying the fact that Planned Parenthood does not provide mammogram services,” said ATTWN founder, Abby Johnson. “American women deserve to know the truth about the nation’s largest abortion provider. Mammograms are a life-saving procedure performed by real healthcare providers, not Planned Parenthood.”
There are over 8000 licensed mammogram facilities in the United States. Not one of them is a Planned Parenthood affiliate. As part of its “Schedule Your Mammogram” day, ATTWN encouraged callers to share about the ministry work of the organization; helping abortion clinic workers to leave the industry and find work as a true healthcare professional.
