The abortion pill, a regimen of two medications that kill an unborn baby and then expel it (painfully) from the uterus, is now the most prevalent way of terminating a pregnancy in America today. More than 60% of all abortions are done by the abortion pill. Why? Because the pills are easy to get, mostly free, and seemingly more private and less painful.
While there have been recent studies showing how dangerous these pills really are, these pills are also being used by fathers and sex offenders to covertly terminate the lives of their children – who are wanted by the moms of those babies.
The most recent case is of Justin Banta, a Department of Justice employee, who slipped his girlfriend the abortion pill, causing the death of their baby without the mother’s knowledge or consent. He is currently facing capital murder charges.
“Capital murder is the highest charge the state of Texas could bring against Banta for the intentional death of his unborn child,” said Abby Johnson, CEO and founder of And There There None and ProLove Ministries. “What about all the women who choose abortion again and again, knowing they are intentionally killing their unborn children? That is also murder.”
“And if the liberal women want to rail against the patriarchy, they should rail against the easy access of abortion pills that give men easy control of their partners.”
Banta’s case is not rare. Many women have gone through the same thing Banta’s partner went through. They had no idea what was causing the immense pain in their bodies and ultimately the loss of their baby.
“The chemical abortion I had was so painful, and I thought I was going to die,” said Johnson. “I can’t even imagine what these women must have gone through to be so completely surprised by their own chemical abortions orchestrated by their partners. But that’s the door that opens when abortion pills are given out so freely and without care.”
Here are the other notable cases of men using the abortion pill to end the lives of their unborn child without their partner’s knowledge or consent:
John Welden – Florida, 2013
Perhaps the most widely reported case is that of John Welden, a 28-year-old Florida man who tricked his pregnant girlfriend into taking Cytotec (misoprostol) by labeling it as an antibiotic. He forged his father’s signature—his father was a physician—to obtain the drug, crushed it, and put it into a pill capsule. The woman miscarried at six weeks.
Welden was charged with product tampering and murder of an unborn child under the federal Unborn Victims of Violence Act. He ultimately took a plea deal and was sentenced to 13 years in federal prison.
Manishkumar Patel – Wisconsin, 2007 / Convicted in 2018
Manishkumar Patel, a Wisconsin businessman, slipped mifepristone into his girlfriend’s smoothie in 2007 without her consent. Suspicious, she never drank it and later turned it over to the authorities. Lab tests confirmed the drug, and Patel fled the country. After more than a decade on the run, he was captured and sentenced in 2018 to 22 years in prison for attempted first-degree intentional homicide of an unborn child.
Jeffrey Smith – Wisconsin, 2022
Jeffry Smith was charged with attempted homicide of an unborn child after spiking his pregnant girlfriend’s water with mifepristone; he was sentenced to 5 years in prison.
Dr. Sikander Imran – Virginia, 2017
A licensed OB-GYN, Dr. Sikander Imran, was involved in a high-profile case where he secretly slipped mifepristone into his ex-girlfriend’s tea after learning she was pregnant. She suffered a miscarriage within hours. Dr. Imran was sentenced in 2019 to three years in prison for fetal homicide, though he only served about half that time.
Scott Bollig – Kansas, 2014
Scott Bollig was charged with first-degree murder after he allegedly crushed up mifepristone and put it in his pregnant girlfriend’s food. She miscarried shortly after. Bollig initially faced harsh charges but later pleaded no contest to reduced charges of criminal abortion and received only a probation sentence.
Robert Kawada – Massachusetts, 2024
Robert Kawada, 43, allegedly deceived his ex-girlfriend into believing she was taking iron and vitamin supplements. Instead, at least one pill contained misoprostol, and he reportedly disguised it alongside raspberry leaf cookies. She miscarried, and he’s now charged with poisoning, assault with a dangerous weapon, and more.
Mason Herring – Texas, 2022
Mason Herring, a 39‑year‑old attorney, drugged his pregnant wife’s drinks—seven times—with pills from Cyrux (a misoprostol brand). She gave birth prematurely, and he was sentenced to 180 days in jail plus 10 years’ probation in early 2024.
Stuart Worby – Norwich, UK, 2022
Stuart Worby, 40, administered mifepristone in orange juice and followed up with misoprostol during sexual assault. The 15‑week‑pregnant victim miscarried shortly after. This case, deemed a landmark in the UK, ended in a conviction for sexual assault and administering a poison.
A doctor in China, May–June 2023
A Chinese urologist secretly spiked his girlfriend’s Coke and water with abortion pills after she expressed a desire to continue the pregnancy. She miscarried and later reported him. This incident triggered public outrage, though the exact legal outcome remains unclear people.com+9ndtv.com+9reddit.com+9.
These are only the reported cases. With the prevalence of and easy access to abortion pills, these stories may only be the tip of the iceberg.
