Planned Parenthood’s latest numbers have been shared in their 2023-24 annual report, and they are horrendous. Two of the most significant items increased: the amount of taxpayer dollars they received and the number of abortions.
Record abortions
The number of abortions Planned Parenthood committed in 2023-24 was 402,230, an increase of 9,500 from the year prior and the most they’ve ever reported. They received $792.2 million, equivalent to approximately $2 million per day.
The number of patients they saw only increased by 1%, but overall has decreased by 23% since 2013. They are closing abortion clinics all over the country because “Trump has cut funding.” Meanwhile, the abortion giant boasts over $2 billion in income and holds $2.5 billion in assets.
“It’s not just the sky-high number of abortions that Planned Parenthood does every year, which is greater than any other year at more than 402,000, that is sickening,” said Abby Johnson, CEO and Founder of And Then There Were None and ProLove Ministries. “The blatant disregard for human dignity in all its forms that Planned Parenthood ardently supports – from the unborn baby to the mom to their own employees – is revolting.”
Where does the money go?
One must wonder how Planned Parenthood can hold over $2.5 billion in assets and rake in $2 billion a year and still not be able to properly clean their abortion clinics or keep them open at all?
In the New York Times expose about Planned Parenthood that ran in February 2025, former employees revealed just how terrible things are at these clinics:
“We’re begging for supplies, and we get denied constantly because they just can’t afford it,” said Ashley Schmidt, a former Planned Parenthood employee.
But it gets worse:
Many clinics are in dire need of upgrades and repairs. In Omaha last year, sewage from a backed-up toilet seeped into the abortion recovery room for two days, according to interviews with staff members and photographs and text messages shared with The Times. Employees shoved exam table pads under the bathroom door to block the leak. Patients vomited from the stench.
Turnover is hovering at around 50 percent a year in many parts of the country, and clinic workers complained that they were learning from inexperienced peers. More than a dozen said they did not receive adequate training for patient intake, blood draws and other tasks.
What’s the problem then? Why can’t Planned Parenthood make do with killing 402,230 innocent unborn babies a year plus all the taxpayer money they get plus all the donations? From that New York Times story, it boils down to priorities: politics and lawyers over women:
Over the last five years, the national office has distributed more than $899 million to affiliates to help them deliver care, but none of it went directly to medical services. By charter, the mission of Planned Parenthood Federation of America is to “provide leadership, advocacy and education in the field of reproductive health care.”
Much of the national funding to affiliates went to legal support, public campaigns to expand abortion access and subsidies for patient navigators who help patients access abortions.
“How our government, and Republicans who have for years claimed to want to defund Planned Parenthood but who are backing down when it’s time to put words into action, can possibly continue to give almost $2 million a day to this organization is beyond reason,” said Abby.
Prenatal care, cancer screenings down; Abortions, taxpayer funding up
Thanks to the Charlotte Lozier Institute for these helpful bullet points that break down just how much money Planned Parenthood gets and how many services they don’t actually provide – except for abortions:
- Planned Parenthood performed a record 402,230 abortions in 2022-23 – an increase of over 9,500 (2%) from the previous year, and an increase of 23% since 2013.
- The number of patients increased by just 1% from the previous year and was down by 23% from 2013.
- In 2022-23, 96.9% of the time, women seeking help related to their pregnancy at Planned Parenthood were sold an abortion rather than given prenatal care, provided care for a miscarriage, or helped to make an adoption plan. Prenatal services, miscarriage care, and adoption referrals accounted for only 1.7% (7,008), 0.9% (3,598), and 0.5% (2,148), respectively.
- For every adoption referral in 2022-23, Planned Parenthood performed 187 abortions. Over the past 10 annual reports, the ratio was approximately 136 abortions for every one adoption referral.
- According to data from Planned Parenthood’s own annual reports, since 2013:
- Total services are down more than 10%.
- With changing practice guidelines, total cancer screening and prevention services have dropped by 54%, including declines of 61% for breast exams and 54% for pap tests.
- Prenatal services are down 63%.
- Contraceptive services are down 38%.
- Taxpayer funding in the form of government grants, contracts, and Medicaid reimbursements hit $792.2 million, over $2 million per day– an increase of $92.9 million from the previous report and representing 39% of Planned Parenthood’s overall revenue.
- Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding has increased by 50% since 2013.
