The Abortion Industry is Trying to Normalize Late-Term Abortions

Contributor: ATTWN Staff

Late-term abortion clinics are opening in Colorado and New Jersey, and the abortion industry is making every attempt to normalize abortions in the second and third trimesters – but former abortion workers in late-term clinics tell a different story.

“Later Abortion Care”

Former abortion workers from Dr. Warren Hern’s late-term abortion clinic, which closed recently, opened their own clinic called RISE Collective, which is committing abortions up to 34 weeks, 0 days of pregnancy. They are located in Boulder, where their former boss had his clinic for decades.

Julie Wilkinson worked for Dr. Hern for two years. She is an RN and played the same part in the 2019 film Unplanned, which was about Abby Johnson’s conversion. Julie never told her family or friends that she worked for Dr. Hern because here’s why:

I was the one who opened the sterile instruments, turned on the suction machine for early cases…and for late-term pregnancies. I was the one who had carefully prepared the urea solution that the abortion doctor would inject into the uterus to violently halt the baby’s heart, and later I would listen for fetal heart tones until they stopped. It was me. I wasn’t just a simple assistant. I played an active role in at least 2,000 deaths.

Now, RISE Collective is doing the same thing and renaming it “later abortion care.”

“Abortion at any stage in pregnancy is horrific, but it is especially brutal at later gestations,” said Abby Johnons, CEO and Founder of And Then There Were None and ProLove Ministries. “The risk of complications is much greater for the mom, babies can be born alive and left to die, and abortion workers participating in late-term abortions are impacted in ways no one can imagine unless they have been in that position.”

Julie describes what she saw during “later abortion care” at Hern’s clinic:

The late cases had to come in and do three days of laminaria dilation. When it was time, I would mix the urea (saline) solution. Hern withdrew as much amniotic fluid as possible from the uterus, then replaced it with urea solution, which causes breakdown of the placenta. The placenta keeps the baby alive. If it fails, the baby dies soon, starved of oxygen and nutrients. He would pull out the hypertonic fluid, which causes the placenta to pull away. I didn’t realize until later that the babies came out purple because they had been burned by the saline. It is horrific.

Late-term abortions are typically defined as abortions that take place at 21 weeks of gestation or later. Data is hard to come by since not all states are mandated to report abortions, including California, Maryland, and New Jersey – all of which have no or very few restrictions on abortions. The closest estimate from the CDC is that 1% of all abortions are done at 21 weeks or later, and there are about one million abortions per year, putting the late-term abortions at around 10,000.

Criminal Acts

Adrienne Moton worked for Dr. Kermit Gosnell, the infamous late-term abortionist in Philadelphia, who now sits in prison for his crimes of first-degree murder of three infants who were born alive. Adrienne’s story is one of profound sorrow but also of incredible redemption.

She went to prison for almost two years for her participation in Gosnell’s “House of Horrors” and was able to meet Abby after she was released and participate in healing retreats through And Then There Were None. But what happened inside that clinic will always remain with her. She started working for Dr. Gosnell because she needed a job and he was willing to provide one. Adrienne only had a high school diploma. She did menial jobs at the clinic for awhile but then was asked to assist in procedures, which were gruesome.

This is what she says was her breaking point [trigger warning: graphic content]:

That was, until I walked briskly into the procedure room one day to begin prepping for an ultrasound, and as I did, I came face to face with a 29-week-old baby (at least that is what was written down; he looked more like 36 weeks) who was all alone. The baby had miscarried from the womb of a 17-year-old girl after we induced her with Cytotec. My two co-workers had left the baby boy there in a dish for which he was too big. His large hands, feet and shoulders were extending out over the edges of the dish. He made me gasp. I looked at his serene little face; he seemed to be asleep. His large, fully formed body caused me to feel something I hadn’t before—sorrow. I took a picture, laid a cloth over him, and prayed for him. I knew what was going to happen to him next, just as soon as Dr. Gosnell entered the room. A gallon jug in the freezer awaited him and the doctor never put complete, whole babies in jugs.

Horrified and suddenly with new eyes that could see what was being done—and what I was a part of—I ran out of there. I was trying to get away, but that was ridiculous. The baby in the dish simply wouldn’t leave me.

It was this testimony that helped to put Dr. Gosnell behind bars, but Adrienne was not free of consequences, both physically in jail, spiritually, and mentally. It has taken her many years even to begin to heal from her time working for Dr. Gosnell.

Abortion Rhetoric

The abortion industry has tried to make the gruesome procedure seem normal and accepted for years.

“It doesn’t matter what words they use: abortion is always the ending of innocent life and should be described in such terms. It can’t be glossed over,” said Abby Johnson, who has had two abortions of her own and worked as a clinic director at Planned Parenthood. “Abortion ends a human life, an innocent human, and no amount of smoothing over those words will take away the evil that abortion perpetuates.”

The Kaiser Family Fountain attempts to say that President Trump, when he was running for office, was incorrect when he said abortions happen moments before birth and even after birth. But he was correct. Abortion survivors Melissa Ohden and Claire Culwell are faces of those who survived abortions. The infants whom Dr. Gosnell killed are the faces of the little ones killed after failed abortions. And some states have zero restrictions on how far along abortions can be done into pregnancy, even up until birth.
