One of the most liberal states in the country legalized abortion for any reason at any point in pregnancy, even up until the moment of birth. Massachusetts removed all restrictions on late-term abortion, leaving it up to “the professional judgment of the physician.”
The previous law was already lenient. It allowed abortion after 24 weeks of pregnancy for fetal abnormalities or the “physical or mental” health of the mother. Abortion was also allowed if “extraordinary medical interventions” are needed for the baby to survive outside of the womb.
Governor Maura Healey signed the bill surrounded by smiling, clapping women.
“The brutality of what the governor endorsed and legalized cannot be understated,” said Abby Johnson, CEO and Founder of And Then There Were None and ProLove Ministries. “Full term babies are going to literally be ripped apart in the womb in the name of ‘healthcare’ and ‘choice’ and these women all proudly stood behind the governor with big smiles while she signed a death warrant.”
Massachusetts will be the 11th state to have no restrictions on abortion when the law is signed by the governor.
Late Term Abortion is Exceptionally Brutal
Abortion is always brutal and cruel because it takes innocent life, but late term abortion is dangerous for the mother and is a long, painful process over the course of at least two to three days. These are testimonies of many women who have had abortions, several of them late term.
One of two methods are used: Dilation and Evacuation (D&E) or Labor Induction. D&E is the most common. This process involves dilating the cervix over the course of two days (possibly more), injecting the baby’s heart, through the mother’s abdomen, with a legal drug, and then pulling the baby out piece by piece. Sometimes the baby doesn’t die from the injection and is pulled apart alive. Labor induction also uses a fatal injection into the baby’s heart and labor is induced. Again, sometimes the baby doesn’t die from the injection and is delivered alive.
Babies are born alive after botched abortions, even today. In fact, there is an entire organization dedicated to helping these individuals and telling their stories: the Abortion Survivors Network.
Late Term Abortions are Deeply Unpopular
There are few points in the abortion debate where both the pro-life and pro-choice sides agree. But one of those is late-term abortions. A Marist poll in early 2026 showed that 64% of Americans agreed that limits should be placed on abortion. A Gallup poll revealed only 13% of Americans support abortion in the third trimester.
